Words Out!
A Night of Collective Send-Offs (in lieu of Nina B. Lichtenstein's "My Body, My Story")
Originally, this week’s session was scheduled to feature Nina B. Lichtenstein teaching My Body, My Story. Due to international travel and time differences, we’ll be moving that class to a later date and look forward to hosting it soon. Subscribe to stay in the loop.
Thank you, always, to our dear Paid Subscribers and our friends at the Stonecoast MFA.
We want you to know how glad we are to be part of your lives.
This Tuesday, we’re trying something a little new.
Rather than gathering to talk about the craft of writing, we’re gathering to send our work out into the world.
We’re calling it…
The idea is simple. We gather together, bring the pieces we’ve been working on, and spend the evening submitting them.
Submitting can often feel like a solitary ritual. Tabs open everywhere, guidelines half-read and bleeding together, that quiet moment hovering over the submit button stretching into hours of self-doubt, exhaustion, and the occasional flare of imposter syndrome.
But it doesn’t have to happen alone! We can suffer together!
During the session, we’ll share current calls for submissions, build a collective list of journals and opportunities, and spend the evening actually sending work out.
We’ll run a few short submission sprints together: time to find a home for a piece, time to actually submit it, and time to come back and celebrate the brave act of pressing submit.
In other words, we’ll spend the night actually submitting shit.
Three focused bursts. A lil’ accountability, a lil’ encouragement, and hopefully a few pieces launched into the world by the end of the night.
Nina has put together this list of places currently open for submissions over the next couple of months « clickity click«. If you have journals, contests, or opportunities you love submitting to, feel free to comment, email us, or bring them along so we can add them to the master list for everyone to benefit from.
You’re welcome to come with a piece ready to send, something you’re close to submitting, or simply curiosity about the process.
If this goes well, we’re hoping to make Words Out a regular gathering in the community, a space where writers can periodically come together to share resources, trade encouragement, and remind each other that this part of the process (as well as every other part) doesn’t have to happen alone.
